Cross County Skiing
The Upper Rio Grande Nordic Club (719-658-0106) maintains nearly 40 miles of groomed trails. Full moon tours by cross-country skis provide excellent opportunity to enjoy the warm camaraderie of fellow skiers, especially when gathered around a cozy bonfire while sipping cups of hot cocoa.

Backcountry Skiing
The San Juan Snow Treks Ski Huts System offer skiers the opportunity to stay overnight after invigorating backcountry touring. Brian Litz features the San Juan Treks huts at Fisher Mountain and on Lime Creek south of Creede in Colorado Hut to Hut: Southern Region. The huts may be reserved for a day trip or overnight by calling San Juan Sports in Creede, 719-658-2359 or 888-658-0851.

Alpine Skiing
The Wolf Creek Ski Area in southern Mineral County boasts "the most snow in Colorado." Powder depths are measured in feet, not inches. The ski runs vary from beginner to advanced. Six lifts provide access to over 1500 acres of incredibly beautiful terrain. The Wolf Creek Ski Area base lies at 10,300' while the summit reaches an elevation of 11,900'.

Snowmobile Clubs
Come join the Snow Country Snowmobilers and "RIDE THE DIVIDE"! Under the supervision of this enthusiastic snowmobile club, Mineral County's vast expanse of national forest and state recreation trails supports over 85 miles of groomed trails. The GIS-mapped trails cover open slopes and high meadows ranging from 8,000 to 12,000 feet at the Continental Divide. Trails also connect Creede with both Lake City and South Fork. Mineral County offers trails for every rider from experts to beginners.

Rio Grande National Forest
Creede is located within the boundaries of the 1,851,792-acre Rio Grande National Forest. The headwaters of the Rio Grande River begin in this national forest characterized by mountain waterways and rugged high country. Recreation opportunities within the Rio Grande National Forest are many. Visitors can enjoy easy access to hiking, mountain biking, road biking, camping, picnicking, four-wheel driving, horseback riding and more. Many visitors enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and backcountry touring during the winter.
